Ettijahat is launching an interview with musician and composer Mustafa Said that was screened on the Open Day on Cultural Research the Third edition which was conducted in Beirut on 30th of August 2019 to present a selection of research papers that was produced in the context of the sixth edition of Research: to Strengthen the Power of Knowledge.
"This, to my knowledge, is the first award to be given to performers of classical modal music [maqām]. For me, this represents the recognition of a great tradition that was almost totally ignored and neglected for nearly a full century. This classical modal music evolved in Egypt and its surrounding region – an area that is now divided into many countries where nationalism and racism have made people forget their unified past. I am more than honoured to try to bring this music back, not as a “museum” but in a living form, and to continue composing and transmitting music to new generations who are able to compose and perform and keep this music alive as a contemporary art."

"حسب علمي، هذه أول جائزة تقدم لمؤدٍ للموسيقى الكلاسيكية المقامية. بالنسبة لي، الجائزة تقدير لتراث عظيم لقي الإهمال و التهميش لقرابة قرن من الزمان. لقد ترعرعت الموسيقى المقامية في مصر و في المناطق المجاورة لها التي هي اليوم مجموعة مقسمة من الدول شتّتها القومية و العنصرية و جعلتها تنسى ماضيها الواحد. إن الشرف لي باستعادة مثل هذه الموسيقى، ليس في شكل 'متحف'، ولكن في شكل حيّ و الشرف لي في مواصلة تأليف و نقل هذه الموسيقى للأجيال القادمة الذين سيتمكنون من تأليف و أداء هذه الموسيقى كفنٍ حيّ و معاصر."
